Marae Trip

on wednesday Mamaku 1 went to Arahura Marae.
We had to walk slowly into the Marae because it shows respect to the Ancestors that have passed away.
When we went inside the Wharenui we were singing a song to the people on the other side. We sang Te Aroha. After we had to Hongi which is a nose to nose kiss in Maori. We had to do a Karakia to show respect to the Maori people and bless god for this food.
We then went back to the Wharenui and we did our Mihi. Some of us had to do a Mihi.
After we went outside to get a photo. Matua T then talked about the carvings in the body of Tuhuru which is the name of the Marae. When you look up there is the Spine of Tuhuru and then there are the Ribs. After that we then came to say Goodbye.

  1. Kia ora Zyah,

I just loved the marae trips. It was great that the whole school had the opportunity to go along and be a part of a powhiri and see our local marae. Have you been to your marae? Is it similar to our local one?
